NPMA Certification — the credential

What it is

NPMA Certification is a portable industry credential issued by National Pest Management Association — pest-management certification. It is recognised by employers wherever the trade is practised, independent of the school that trained you.

What it proves

It proves that the holder has been examined against a published standard — knowledge on a written exam and, in most cases, an observed practical performance — and has met the standard of National Pest Management Association.

Who issues it

National Pest Management Association. Credential type: industry. The issuing body publishes the exam blueprint, the eligibility rules (training hours, experience, prerequisites) and the recertification cycle; the school's registrar keeps the current version on file and the exam-prep course teaches to it.

The programs that carry it

• Pest Control Technician (2.0–3.0 months, 450 clock hours, tuition $4,095) — curriculum: Entomology; pesticides & IPM; termite/wood-destroying organisms; structural fumigation basics; safety & law.

How it is earned at VoTechWorks

At VoTechWorks the credential is earned inside the programs that carry it (Pest Control Technician): the universal core, one competency course per curriculum area with a written exam, an observed skills demonstration and a signed log each, a capstone, an externship, then exam preparation and the credential exam itself, sat at the school's authorized testing center or the body's own site.

The sequence in every program: (1) the universal core — OSHA 10, first aid/CPR, trade math, technical writing, digital literacy, career readiness; (2) one competency course per curriculum area, each with a written exam, an observed skills demonstration with zero safety faults, a signed log and a safety audit; (3) the capstone; (4) the externship or clinical practicum, logged in the format the issuing body accepts; (5) certification exam preparation — the blueprint, two timed mocks at ≥ 80%, the practical rehearsal, and registration.

Where it leads

It leads to entry-level employment in Agriculture, Environment & Public Service, counts toward the next credential on the stackable pathway, and is the first line on the résumé an employer reads.

Keeping it

Most industry credentials renew every 2–5 years by continuing education or re-test; NCCER and AWS records stay on the registry.
